praying for rain (1.6)

I wrote this song in the midst of the devastating fires ravaging the West, as I drove home from the gym under a thick blanket of grey smoke. As it’s ruminated, it feels even more real today, as we cry out in this season of unrest and darkness, as we pray for clarity and comfort. As we wait for our God, Emmanuel, to find us in the desert.

I invite you today to listen to the lyrics and meditate on what it is you are waiting for in this season. If you want, spend a few minutes after the song finishes in quiet reflection.

I stand

Alone on the top of this mountain

Calling your name

I stand

And weep ‘cause the valley beneath me

Is covered in flames

And the winds blow

And the earth shakes

And the fire burns

And you don’t speak

I’m waiting in the wilderness for you

My heart and my mouth are as dry as the ground

I’m crying to you and I don’t hear a sound

How long O Lord till you speak through the noise

You can do miracles

And I’m praying praying praying

Praying for rain

O Lord

Do you hear the voices of people

Being held down

O Lord

Can you see those who are in hiding

And need to be found

And the winds blow

And the earth shakes

And the fire burns

And you don’t speak

I’m waiting in the wilderness for you

My heart and my mouth are as dry as the ground

I’m crying to you and I don’t hear a sound

How long O Lord till you speak through the noise

You can do miracles

I’ve seen you do miracles

And I’m praying, praying, praying,

Praying for rain
